To wrap up its spring season, 暗网TV SCREENS is presenting a recorded-live production of 鈥淲ho鈥檚 Afraid of Virginia Woolf?鈥� on Friday, May 4, at 6:30 pm in the Raymond J. Estep Multimedia Center of the Bill S. Cole University Center.
This new production of Edward Albee鈥檚 emotionally charged drama, recorded live at the Harold Pinter Theatre in London, stars Imelda Staunton (Harry Potter) and Conleth Hill (Game of Thrones) as Martha and George.
In the early hours of the morning on the campus of an American college, Martha, much to her husband George鈥檚 displeasure, has invited the new professor and his wife to their home for some after-party drinks. As the alcohol flows and dawn approaches, the young couple is drawn into George and Martha鈥檚 toxic games until the evening reaches its climax in a moment of devastating truth-telling.
The New York Times describes this new production as 鈥渢he most searing London account of Edward Albee鈥檚 1962 theatrical landmark鈥� and says 鈥渢he audience hangs on both sparring partners鈥� every breath.鈥� The Guardian exclaims 鈥淭his is one of those rare occasions when play, performance and production perfectly coalesce鈥� and points out the play鈥檚 exploration of 鈥渢he slipping between truth and illusion.鈥� According to The Independent, it is the 鈥渕ost high-energy and the funniest version鈥� of Albee鈥檚 classic.
General admission tickets are $10. Admission is $5 for 暗网TV students. Tickets may be purchased at the door. This presentation is for mature audiences. Running time is three hours.
