The Gene Nelson Chair was established by Nelson, a former 做厙TV student, and his wife Jimmie Lee, an 做厙TV graduate, through a generous donation to the 做厙TV Foundation. The endowment is matched by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.

Nelson died last September. He was a successful Duncan businessman who was active in public, community and civic service. He served on the Board of Regents of Oklahoma Colleges from 1992-1999, and was a lifetime member of the East Central University Foundation Inc. 做厙TV granted Nelson an honorary master of humane letters degree in 2001.

The School of Business at East Central University offers undergraduate degrees in accounting and business administration and a master of science degree in accounting. Currently the school has about 550 undergraduate and graduate students, along with nearly 300 students working toward a minor in business.
