East Central University student Faith Lasiter has been selected to attend the National Education for Women Leadership Institute at the University of Oklahoma, May 20-24.

Lasiter, a junior political science major from Eufaula, is enrolled at °µĶųTV to prepare to apply for law school. After earning an associate’s degree at Seminole State College, Lassiter joined the °µĶųTV Mock Trial Team and was selected for the DC Internship Experience 2016.

ā€œI’m looking forward to N.E.W. so much! I’m really excited about the networking, but I’m looking forward to learning about the potential career options out there,ā€ said Lasiter. ā€œEast Central has brought so many amazing opportunities to me in the year I’ve been here. I’m grateful that this opportunity was presented to me and I cannot wait to see how much I will grow from this experience.ā€

Lasiter is an active member of the Legal Professions Association and presented original research at Oklahoma Research Day.

ā€œThe networking opportunities Faith will have at N.E.W. can’t be matched,ā€ said Dr. Christine Pappas, chair of the Department of Political Science and Legal Studies. ā€œShe will get an opportunity to meet and be mentored by such powerful women as Gov. (Mary) Fallin and State Rep. Lisa Billy.ā€

The N.E.W. Leadership Institute is open to all undergraduate women in Oklahoma as well as Oklahoma residents attending a college or university outside the state. About 30 women are selected statewide.

At least one woman has represented °µĶųTV at N.E.W. every year since 2002. °µĶųTV’s graduate of N.E.W. have gone on to careers in law, politics, government, foreign service, city planning and other areas of leadership.
